Pinkeye, or
conjunctivitis, is a highly contagious infection of the eye caused by bacteria,
viruses, allergies or exposure to irritating chemicals or fumes. Pink Eye
symptoms include redness in the eye(s), intense itching, pain and swelling of
the eyelid, as well as discharge that often creates a “crust” that makes it
hard to open the affected eye.
While antibiotics
are usually prescribed for bacterial pinkeye, there are herbal and homeopathic remedies that have brought effective relief for those suffering with any type
of conjunctivitis or pinkeye:
Remedies for Pink Eye
1. Clear ColdSores, Shingles and U.T.I.’s – While pinkeye isn’t in the name, this formula
containing a unique proprietary blend of Chinese herbs is formulated to work in
combination with active homeopathic ingredients to provide safe and effective
relief from a number of related ailments, including pinkeye, or conjunctivitis.
This gentle, yet powerful formula gives you the added benefit of preventing and
minimizing the intensity of future pinkeye outbreaks while supporting the
natural balance of the body. Take two capsules three times per day for two
weeks, even after symptoms subside. Kids can be given half doses.
2. Herbal
Solution – There are three herbs that provide effective relief from pink eye
with their naturally occurring antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and soothing
qualities: Calendula, Chamomile and Eyebright (or Euphrasia officinalis).
Ideally purchase organic loose tea leafs of each and steep together in hot
filtered water for 15 to 20 minutes. Once cooled, apply solution using a
sterile eyedropper, cotton ball or by soaking your eye directly in the solution
in a shallow cup. You can also create a soothing cool compress for your eyes by
dipping a clean washcloth in the solution.
Apply solution three times per day.
3. Vitamin C – Up
your daily dose of vitamin C to 2,000-2,500 milligrams in 500-milligram
increments taken four to five times throughout the day for two weeks. Vitamin
C, the grandfather of antioxidants, isn’t naturally occurring in the human
body, and is extremely important in maintaining and restoring a healthy and
robust immune system.
