That time of year
is coming where most of us can expect to catch the common cold or even one of
this year’s flu bugs. If you’re sensitive to, or don’t want to take,
prescription or over-the-counter medications, here are five natural ways to
find fast relief and recover quicker from the cold and flu:
1. Clear Cold & Flu contains a unique blend of herbs and homeopathic ingredients
formulated to offer fast and safe relief from cold and flu symptoms including
congestion, sinus pain and pressure, headache, chills and sore throat. Unlike
many prescription and over-the-counter medications, it is non-habit forming and
won’t cause side effects such as drowsiness, increased heart rate or drying of
the sinuses. Instead of masking symptoms, Clear Cold & Flu stimulates the
body’s natural immune response and promotes internal balance.
2. Salt water
(otherwise known as saline solution) is a simple, safe and effective solution
that provides relief from throat pain and congestion, and it keeps sinuses
clean and hydrated. When you have a cold or flu, gargle with warm salt water
four times per day and do a nasal rinse with a neti pot or nasal rinse system
twice per day.
3. Sleep is
probably the most important thing you can do when you have a cold or flu. When
your body is under attack, it takes a lot of energy to fight off a bug, and
your body can do this most effectively when you are sleeping, or at the very
least relaxing. It’s best to keep the top half of your body elevated using
extra pillows to minimize congestion and coughing that can be exacerbated by
lying flat on your back.
4. Drink more
fluids when you have a cold or the flu. I know you’ve heard this a million
times, but it’s essential in flushing out congestion and toxins. Hot
decaffeinated green tea or chamomile tea with honey and lemon, hot apple cider
with cinnamon, homemade chicken noodle soup and fresh squeezed orange juice are
all great options, along with plenty of water.
5. Decongest with
steam and/or essential oils such as eucalyptus, mint or lavender. Take a hot,
steamy shower and/or create a mini facial by holding your face over a bowl with
very hot water and a few drops of one of the essential oils mentioned above
with a large towel over your head. This is especially effective and enjoyable
before going to sleep.
